Jim and Kat Boggs

Jim and I transplanted to the beautiful PNW in 2000 from Huntington Beach, California. We love the beauty the PNW has to offer... gorgeous sceneries, yummy local food, Washington wines, and the nicest folks around.

We both love sailing our Sabre 38 in the San Juans, Gulf Islands, and all around the Puget Sound. We feel so lucky to have found our "one particular harbor" right here in Port Ludlow. We both enjoy volunteering at the Wreck Room and look forward to seeing old friends and new ones as soon as it's safe to gather once again.

Tom and Linda Britton

We met in high school in Pittsford, NY, and married four years later. Tom's job in micrographic sales with Kodak moved us around a lot in the northeast US, and finally to Redmond, WA. During that time, Linda stayed home being a mom to our three sons. After 22 years with Kodak, we bought a boat brokerage and dealership in Bellingham, and Linda bought a quilting and sewing machine store. Ten years later, we retired to Hawaii. It was beautiful and interesting, and Tom caught some big fish. But we missed the Northwest, and its wonderful cruising waters, so back we came in 2019, this time to Port Ludlow. We always had some kind of boat, mostly smaller ones, until Bellingham, where we cruised in a 34' power boat, then a 50' Catalina sail boat. Now we have an older 40' Ocean Alexander, and Tom stays busy repairing and updating it. Joining PLYC in 2019 was the perfect way to meet great new friends who enjoy boating.

Harold & Sheila Brunstad

Sheila and Harold first met in seventh grade in the Tri-Cities in Eastern Washington. We got married our senior year in college and have been married for 55 years. We both graduated from Washington State University. We have lived in Germany, Missouri, Idaho, California, Oregon, and Washington. We have a daughter and son who live in Seattle along with our two grandsons. We always considered Washington home and retired to Port Ludlow close to 15 years ago.

Following the footsteps of Harold's parents, we joined the yacht club not long after and have enjoyed all it has to offer, including the opportunity to serve in several "officer" positions. We have been coming to Port Ludlow since the 1970s. And have cruised and fished the San Juans and beyond since the 1980s. We look forward to getting back to cruising this year with our Golden Retriever Lucky.

Dave Carbaugh and Karen Scholz

Dave was an Air Force Academy graduate, a training, fighter, a transport pilot in the military, and finally, an experimental test pilot for the Boeing Company. He retired in 2016 after 30 years with Boeing as the chief pilot flight safety and was qualified on the 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, and 787. His interests are flying, golf, travel, and boating.

Karen also spent 30 years with Boeing as a design engineer and a customer service engineer. She had customers she visited and worked with from all over the world. She retired in 2015 and now spends her time showing and judging dogs, gardening, working on her saltwater fish tanks, traveling, and boating!

We are on our third iteration of powerboats since 2010 and think we finally have it right! We own a 59 foot Carver 570, which we just love and presently have decked out in Flamingo theme. We have named her Mystic's Valhalla. This is part of her dog kennel name (Mystic American Eskimo Dogs) and Viking for heaven. So, I guess you'd call it dog heaven. We are looking forward to many adventures in retirement as well as spending time with our three married children who live in Seattle.

Robert and Gail Chanpong

Robert and Gail Chanpong are relatively new to the Washington State and the Olympic Peninsula, having lived and worked in developing countries overseas for 30 years of our 46-year marriage. We made Port Ludlow our home at the end of 2015, following Robert's retirement as a Geoscientist in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Gail continues to teach Public Health with the University of Washington, School of Public Health, traveling throughout the Western United States. As experienced power boaters, we enjoy cruising year-round. We love the beautiful Pacific Northwest in all types of weather, rain or shine.

Since arriving back in the USA in 2015, Gail and Robert have been active in our community Port Ludlow Village Council (PLVC), related to Utilities and Emergency Management. We also contribute to the Jefferson County Boeing Bluebills to build ramps, the American Red Cross as part of the South Puget Sound and Olympics Disaster Action Team and teach CPR and Wilderness First Aid for the Girl Scouts. We are very glad to be back on the same continent as our three adult children and three grandchildren who live in Minnesota, Texas, and Illinois.

Wade Crouch

I'm from Montana, "Big Sky" country, where I rode Bulls (yes, I am a real Cowboy) and raised cattle. My career/education in livestock led me to Montana State University, where I became a Professor of Agriculture.

My love of the great outdoors, boating, and fishing, plus my desire for a small-town environment, led me to Port Ludlow. Among other things, I have especially enjoyed my involvement with the Marine Resource Committee and the Marine Science Center.

Port Ludlow Yacht Club, always a friendly and welcoming environment, is like a big family to me. I enjoy Bartending and sharing our boating experiences.

I currently own a 36' CHB Trawler, "Big Sky," and look forward to cruising the San Juan islands with my First Mate, Marti Hands, and the adventures ahead of us.

Dahlem Fred Lori Longo.jpeg

Fred Dahlem and Lori Longo

Fred and I are retired high school science teachers and school principals. In 2017, we decided to downsize and move to the Olympic Peninsula, where we would be near the water and the mountains. Living aboard helped with that transition as we waited for our house to be finished in Ludlow Cove Cottages. We love exploring the San Juan and Gulf Islands on our 1999 Catalina 400 MK II sailboat, Sweetie.  Since joining the yacht club in 2017, we have enjoyed meeting like-minded people who treasure the PNW. Cruising with friends is great fun!

We also enjoy volunteering in the Wreck Room and our roles as Wreck Room Scheduler and Commodore for 2021. When we are not on the boat, you will likely find Fred on the golf course and Lori in her kayak. We have four adult children and seven grandchildren. Grateful to have them all on the west coast. We spend as much time together as possible.

Ken & Ann Ebert

Both of us are retired and spend about six months out of the year on the boat (Destiny), which is a Bayliner 5288. When not on board, we travel in our motorhome (American Resolution 40ft.) or use timeshare points. We enjoy the travels both in the US and abroad. Ann is a retired elementary teacher, and Ken is a retired communications engineer for the rail industry.

Erickson Darrell Sarah Powell.jpeg

Darrell Erickson and Sarah Powell

We're vagabonds, and a nomadic lifestyle satisfies our wanderlust. We retired 11 years ago and have been cruising or Air Streaming around the SF Bay Area, the Sierra Nevada, San Diego, Mexico, and Puget Sound since. After sailing in Mexico for several winters aboard our Tayana 47/48, we transitioned to the Dark Side. We purchased a Grand Banks 42 Classic, in Sausalito, with plans to cruise the PNW. Scrimshaw is our 17th boat. At which point, we decided we might as well turn our passion into a business. Darrell works as a yacht broker in Poulsbo and San Diego, while Sarah designs jewelry.

We moved to Port Ludlow and joined PLYC in the Fall of 2020. We have behaved ourselves during the Covid 19 Stay at Home orders and stayed put. Gardening and remodeling were entertaining for a while, but we are really ready to start wandering again.

Gross.Steven Gross & Fran Bodman.jpg

Steven Gross and Fran Bodman Gross

Steven and Fran moved to Port Ludlow from Palm Desert, CA in 2006.

Fran has been involved in North Bay Potlucks, Port Ludlow Art League, the Garden Club, and the PLYC Women's Group. She is an avid gardener and artist.

Steven has transferred his 40 years of experience in syndicating and operating apartment buildings to the management of Port Ludlow Mini Storage on Walker Way. He is a computer nerd, ham radio operator, and drives his Viper on sunny days.

Hashagan.IMG_6882.jpg

Chris and Karen Hashagen

Chris and I moved to Port Ludlow in late 2003 and joined the Yacht Club about a year later. We started with a fast 30' Bayliner, then switched to a 40' Kha Shing trawler so we could enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Pacific Northwest waters and the occasional pod of whales that we would spot.

We enjoyed years of participating in all the Club's activities, including the fun of planning and leading cruises and the joy of just being cruisers with a fun group of special people. We eventually moved on to land cruising and have spent over 350 nights in our Airstream. Plans to travel in New England were cut short by Covid, but we still hope to one day make it across the country.

We love international travel, as well as spending time with our families, which include five children and eight grandchildren, six of whom live within an hour of us. The other two are in Bangkok, and we have had many fun trips visiting them there and exploring Asia. Last year we came home via Australia and New Zealand, arriving home in early February just in time to begin a year of living with the constraints of COVID. We are very grateful that we are surrounded by so much beauty and good friends to help us through this challenging year.

Greg and Barb Herkert

Barb and Greg Herkert live with their daughter Jenna on the Hood Canal. They moved to Port Ludlow in September 2019 after falling in love with the San Juans and Gulf Islands, cruising for several summers in their 27' Ranger Tug, Blue Heron. They joined PLYC just before Covid hit, so they have met very few members and are eager to do so once things are safe again. Greg would especially like to find a golf buddy. Barb is a children's author, and Greg is a dentist in Sequim. Their son, Keith, lives in Portland with his wife, Jocelyn. Barb and Greg are thrilled to be becoming grandparents in June!

Mary has been sailing since she was a child on the inland lakes of Michigan. She shared her expertise in teaching sailing at her YMCA camp. It's a way to get kids excited and ignite a lifelong passion for sailing the waters blue. She moved to Seattle forty-two years ago.

Bruce Johnston and Mary Baker Anderson

Bruce, a Seattle native, grew up with Port Ludlow as a favorite sailing destination. He has an extensive racing resume dating from 1959 to the present. To list a sampling of Puget Sound and southern British Columbia events: over twenty-five Swiftsure races, forty-plus Tri-Island races, and a host of afternoon club races. Bluewater race events from 2001 – 2015 include the likes of the Fastnet Race, America's Cup Jubilee, Newport to Bermuda, and Marblehead to Halifax on Aphrodite, Swan 46. The crown jewel being the Transatlantic race on Aphrodite, Swan 46 – Bruce's biggest boating achievement and Mary's most scary moment as a land-based spouse!

They are now part owners of a 40" Tollycraft, Vicky II, moored in Port Orchard and a Chris Craft 25, Bannockburn, moored in Port Ludlow. After being part-time residents for years, they are grateful every day to now call Port Ludlow home.

Erik and Allison Leonard

We moved to Port Ludlow in September 2020 from Bellevue, where we had lived for the last 20 years on Lake Sammamish. We are recently retired (a little unexpectedly, to be honest) and are still in the "is this real?" phase. Previously we worked in Information Technology, Allison in sales, and then project management, and Erik in software QA, consulting, and ERP. We have two kids, a son who is a recent college graduate and trying to get his career sorted out and a daughter. We are expecting our first grandchild from our daughter in a couple of months. We like to ski and hike and are taking up cruising (we've had a ski boat, a small sail boat, kayaks, SUP's and assorted other floating things). Allison enjoys Qi Gong and Yoga, Erik enjoys golf, woodworking, home projects, fixing things, and learning new stuff. We are new owners of a 29 foot Ranger Tug, the One love, and are trying to figure out all the systems, geegaws, and doo-dads. It's a bigger boat than we are used to.

Rand and Elizabeth Lien

We moved to Port Ludlow at the beginning of 2017 and immediately joined PLYC. Rand is originally from Minnesota; Liz was born in Olympia. We were married in 1995 and started our own company in Bellingham three months after our wedding. Our company started as a graphic design business. Six months later, we had refocused and were building websites. We sold our company to three key employees in 2018 when we had 45 employees.

Liz had two sons and Rand had three sons when we were married. We had both been single parents for several years. Our blended family now includes five sons and daughter-in-laws, sixteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

While we moved to Sandy Point in Ferndale, WA in 2020, we love PLYC and continue to engage. We look forward to seeing our friends on cruises and occasional visits to the Wreck Room.

Manny and Christie Martinez

Manuel, better known as Manny, and I (Christie) moved to Port Ludlow in 2013. We immediately joined the Yacht Club as Manny had been a sailor all his life. We had a 22' Santana at the time but soon realized we needed something a bit larger to enjoy the San Juan's and Canada.

We found a 35' Baba, aka the Flying Dutchman, and enjoyed Sailing her with friends and family. Manny became the Sail Captain and enjoyed three years sharing his love of sailing, after which our friends Kathy Gager and then Kat Boggs took the reins (or shall we say sails). I am an AKC Dog Judge and as well as Judging throughout the US. I have enjoyed Judging in China, Korea, Mexico, and Jamaica.

Manny often travels with me, and when we can, we visit their Yacht Clubs. This year we moved from a Sail Boat to a Power boat. We now have a 38' Gold Star, Twilight Time which needed some work and has been a new kind of adventure/challenge. Our best mate is Poppy, our 5-year-old Havanese. She loved to sail and has become quite comfortable on the new boat. We can't wait to join our fellow Yacht Club friends to enjoy life on the high seas.

Satre.jpeg

Tish and Tom Satre

We found Port Ludlow in 2009 when we decided to retire. We bought a condo and lived half the year in Juneau, Alaska, and wintered in Ludlow. In 2013 we joined PLYC when Tom said, "I've found my people"! We still run our charter business in summers in Alaska. We love the socials, the marine exchanges, and cruising. We've bought our forever home on the water, and Tish's mom promptly moved in with us. Tom has his 200-ton mariners license and a lifetime of boating experience to share. Tish loves to cook and is always game for a social gathering! We love to host folks on our steel trawler, M/V Alaska Quest, and hope you'll swing by to say hello.

Ramsay Smith and Anne Burrell-Smith

Ramsay and Anne moved back to the Pacific Northwest in 2012 after Ramsay's retirement. Before settling on Port Ludlow, we scoured the Olympic peninsula and Kitsap County for just the right house for us. When we moved to the area, we had no notion of buying a boat, but about a year and a half after joining the Club we got the bug! We are proud owners of Le Congé, a 1978 Grand Banks 42 Classic, which became our home as well last June.

Ramsay was raised in Asheville, NC, and attended NC State. After working for three years with his father in forest products consulting, he decided to go to grad school. Ramsay got his MS and Ph.D. in Wood Science and Technology at UC Berkley. He then taught and headed up research on the faculties at the University of Washington, West Virginia University, and Louisiana State University. After 27 years in academia, Ramsay became the Research Director for wood treatment at Arch Chemicals/Lonza in Atlanta, Georgia. Ramsay loves to play golf, all aspects of boating, traveling, and spending time on his mountain outside of Franklin, NC.

Anne was raised in Seattle on Capitol Hill. She received her BS from West Virginia University and her Masters in Statistical Analysis from LSU. Anne worked in the Banking industry for 19 years at First Interstate Bank of Washington in the Trust and Retail Banking departments. After moving to Louisiana, Anne became a line umpire, chair umpire, and chief umpire for the USTA, WTA, and ATP for 20 years. Anne loves her time on the boat, enjoying outside adventures, traveling, and being with family, especially our granddaughter in Louisiana.

Anne and Ramsay have been married 37 years and have two wonderful sons, a beautiful daughter-in-law, and an amazing granddaughter.

Thornquist.John & Michele Thornquist.JPG

John & Michele Thornquist

We are recently retired and relocated! We both grew up in Bellevue, met at the UW, and raised our two children in NW Seattle. We have owned a house near Port Gamble & the Hood Canal Bridge since 2010 and moved there permanently in November. We absolutely love being on and near the water. John spent his career in the aerospace industry as a contract engineer, business owner, and most recently as an aerospace consultant. Michele spent her career in non-profit marketing with nearly 20 years as admission and fundraising director for a private school. We are excited to welcome our first grandchild in May. In addition to boating, we love to ski, hike, garden & travel. Our Cutwater 26 is our third and largest boat. While we have cruised the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound with friends, cruising for ourselves is a new experience. We are looking forward to enjoying the shared expertise of the PLYC.

Mike Titus and Theresa Muir

We are Mike Titus and Theresa Muir. In 2017 we moved from La Quinta, CA, to Port Ludlow and became members of PLYC soon after. Theresa has served as Rear Commodore and Vice Commodore, and Mike has served as Bar Manager. We both were regular attendees at PLYC social gatherings and frequent volunteers at the Wreck Room before it closed. We are excited at the prospect that the Wreck Room could reopen this year.

Mike is a sailor at heart, has owned several sailboats, and has sailed from Portland to Hawaii, Portland to Alaska, and San Francisco to San Diego, and he spent a number of years racing on the Columbia River. Toby, the 1973 Willard trawler that we acquired in 2018, will finally get to cruise this summer after a few more projects are completed. Mike is still trying to feel comfortable as a new inductee to the 'Dark Side.' Like most of our family and friends, 2020 was an interesting year. Heartbreaking as it's been in so many ways, it was also a positive year of firsts for us: The first granddaughter was born, first trip in our motorhome (6,000 miles), and first Zoom meeting, to name a few. Soon, we hope to have another first, Covid vaccination!
